PADI Assistant Instructor Course

The PADI Assistant Instructor Course at Calypso’s 5 Star IDC Center prepares you for the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course. It develops your leadership and teaching skills to an instructor level, enabling you to teach PADI programs. The IDC is intense, enjoyable, and rewarding. Completing it prepares you for the PADI Instructor Examination (IE), where you’ll make new friends and gain valuable industry credentials.

Prerequisites:

• Age: At least 18 years.
• Diving Experience: Certified diver for a minimum of 6 months.
• Leadership Certification: PADI Divemaster or equivalent.
• Dive Log: 60 logged dives, including deep, navigation, and night diving.
• Emergency Training: EFR Primary and Secondary Care within the last 24 months.
• Certifications: Documented certifications for Entry Level, Advanced, Rescue, and Leadership Level.
• Medical Clearance: Signed by a physician within the last 12 months.

Performance Requirements:

1. eLearning Components:

   • Complete various eLearning modules covering dive theory, PADI systems, risk management, and more.

2. Curriculum Components:

   • Participate in workshops and sessions with a PADI Course Director and staff.

3. Teaching Presentations:

   • Deliver and score well in Knowledge Development, Confined Water, and Open Water Teaching Presentations.

4. Skills Evaluation:

   • Perform 24 dive and skin dive skills, meeting scoring criteria.

5. Exams:

   • Achieve a minimum of 75% on PADI Systems, Standards and Procedures Exam and Dive Theory Exam.

6. Rescue Demonstration:

   • Conduct a simulated rescue of an unresponsive diver.

Course Duration

The standard course takes 4 days, designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience. Upon completion, candidates can proceed to the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course and the 2-day PADI Instructor Examination.

Roles and Responsibilities of a PADI Assistant Instructor

1. Knowledge Development Facilitation:

   • Present and elaborate on knowledge development segments for any PADI Diver course under the indirect supervision of an instructor. This includes assessing and ensuring student comprehension.

2. Confined Water Training Assistance:

   • Conduct initial skills training sessions under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor during confined water dives. This role is crucial for the foundational training of new divers.

3. Open Water Surface Skill Evaluation:

   • Perform open water surface skill evaluations during PADI Open Water Diver course dives under indirect supervision. This includes assessing student skills in real diving conditions.

4. Specialty Course Instruction:

   • Teach and certify divers in the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty under an instructor’s direction.
   • Independently teach and certify divers in non-diving specialty courses like Project AWARE and Coral Reef Conservation.

5. Discover Scuba Diving Program:

   • Independently conduct the Discover Scuba Diving experience in a pool or confined water. This includes introducing beginners to scuba diving in a controlled environment.

6. Youth Programs:

   • Independently conduct Bubblemaker programs and PADI Seal Team AquaMissions, engaging young divers in safe and fun introductory diving activities.

7. Specialty Instructor Training:

   • Teach and certify divers in specialty courses that do not include dives after completing the Specialty Instructor Training courses and earning the Specialty Instructor ratings.
   • Conduct Digital Underwater Photographer specialty courses under the direction of a PADI Instructor, upon completion of corresponding instructor training and earning Specialty Instructor ratings.
